Queen Street Mill
A new way to discover Lancashire's history Still in its early days, Becconsall Heritage Park is an emerging site in West Lancashire, created to share the story of everyday life across the county. With a focus on Lancashire’s industrial, social and craft heritage, Becconsall aims to support learning, skills and wellbeing through its collections, demonstrations, re-enactments, themed events and workshops. It also seeks to build lasting community involvement in the area’s rich past, from Viking settlements to the Industrial Revolution and beyond. Now open, with a nature trail and WW2 ruins to view, and running regular on-site events, it’s one to watch as it continues to grow.
Helmshore Textile Mills
Witness the spellbinding nature of Lancashire’s industrial past Ever wondered what it was like to work in the cotton mills? Wonder no more, on a visit to Queen Street Textile Mill or Helmshore Textile Mills. At Queen Street Textile Mill you can hear the deafening noise of the looms as they clatter, with live demonstrations of working machinery in the last remaining steam driven weaving shed in the world! This Grade 1 listed building offers a unique opportunity to step back in time. Nearby Helmshore Textile Mills is home to two mills, one cotton and the other wool, telling the story of the importance of these products to the textile industry in Lancashire. Again, the working machinery allows you to really experience the sights and sounds of the era, and the hands-on interactive displays will really engage young minds.
