Visit Lancashire Summer Guide 2026

ARNSIDE AND SILVERDALE At the very top of Lancashire’s coast, you’ll find the Arnside and Silverdale National Landscape. This protected area with its rugged coastal landscape attracts walkers and nature lovers and is a place rich in wildlife, perfect for nature spotting; expect lots of birds, roe deer and butterflies. Don’t miss: The biggest attraction on this part of the coast is the RSPB’s Leighton Moss, a nature reserve with plenty of birdwatching opportunities, plus events and trails for all to enjoy. It is wheelchair and pushchair accessible and there’s a welcoming cafe and a shop, to stock up on bird food and new binoculars. Whilst here, visit Lindeth Tower, where Elizabeth Gaskell spent her summers writing some of her most celebrated works, and Jenny Brown’s Point, which was used as a film location for the BBC TV drama The Ruby in the Smoke, featuring Billie Piper. Head to The Wolf Cafe for delicious cakes and a bite to eat after your wander! Don’t Miss: Technically inland, the Carnforth Heritage Centre was used as a filming location for one of the greatest romance movies of all time, Brief Encounter. With props from the movie and a bar and bistro that is a replica of the one in the movie, it’s like stepping back in time! A walk along the coastline from Red Bank Farm will take you to the Praying Shell memorial sculpture looking out over Morecambe Bay. Unveiled in 2013, this beautiful piece of art, was designed to parallel humanity's openness and the way cockle shells open as the tide comes in.

CARNFORTH AND ITS SURROUNDING AREA Carnforth itself sits just 2 miles inland, with the area around it offering beautiful views across Morecambe Bay. To really appreciate the surroundings, take a walk to Warton Crag for spectacular panoramic views. Rolling hills, green fields and marshland make this area popular with hikers, where flocks of sheep graze on the salt marshes around Bolton-le-Sands; Lancashire’s salt marsh lamb is a local delicacy.
