The Nab Lab
DAY TWO DELVE INTO THE RIBBLE VALLEY'S GOURMET SCENE Start the day exploring the Forest of Bowland, an area of outstanding natural beauty and designated National Landscape, where the food story continues with artisan makers, distillers and brewers. The area is officially recognised
as one of England’s leading food regions. Here there are a number of options to sample the area's gin producers, including a 2-hour gin workshop at The Nab Lab, immersing yourself in the art of crafting gin as you explore rich aromas of botanicals and the gleam of copper stills. Create your own unique gin to take home while you are treated to 2 glasses of their “Spirit of the Nab” gins. Follow this with lunch at Artisan Ribble Valley, a beautiful restaurant at Foxfields Country Hotel offering a celebration of Lancashire menu, full to the brim with small plates, burgers, artisan pizzas and hearty meat dishes, is created using fresh, local independent produce. If you’re looking to tick more Michelin stars off your list head to the White Swan at Fence, which is set in a lively local pub. The afternoon could see you enjoying the historic sites within the area, like Whalley Abbey, Stonyhurst College Museum (pre-booking required) or Clitheroe Castle Museum, or taking in a stroll along the banks of the Hodder or Ribble rivers through unspoilt countryside. In the evening head to one of the local pubs with rooms for a bite to eat and an overnight stay. You will be spoilt for choice in this area, with options ranging from The Inn at Whitewell, favoured by the monarchy, to The Three Millstones, a Grade II listed inn in West Bradford and The Assheton Arms, with its beautiful views across Pendle Hill for a more traditional inn. Alternatively, The Wellsprings Restaurant offers Spanish and Mexican inspired menus with luxury lodges on site.
