DISCOVER THE UK’S OLDEST GINGERBREAD Ormskirk has a long history of and association with food, with the fertile area around the town knows as ‘the salad bowl of England’ and nearby Aughton being home to more Michelin Stars than primary schools, it's a must visit
for foodies. The bi-weekly market is one of the best options for picking up local produce including gingerbread that is meant to date back further than the Cumbrian one that everyone knows! Each July the town celebrates with its very own Gingerbread Festival, so don’t miss it!
While in the area, Martin Mere is a must visit for any nature lovers! The wetlands centre is home to so many visiting birds throughout the season, but also to a number of animals that you can see all year round, like the incredible flamboyance of flamingos and romp of otters! Be sure to take a walk through the Weird and Wonderful Aviary. Alternatively combine your trip with great walks around Burscough Wharf or take a cruise down the Leeds Liverpool Canal, or a trip to nearby Windmill Animal Farm.
