Colourfields Blackburn – Corporation Park
The first of the four panopticons to launch was the Colourfields which was revealed on 14 th June 2006 and was a collaboration between Jo Rippon Architecture and artist Sophie Smallhorn. This sculpture is slightly different to the other three as it doesn’t necessarily look like an artistic sculpture. This is because it incorporates the former cannon batteries that had been located at the park since 1857 after being captured during the Crimean War. What can you see – This panopticon offers widespread panorama of the park below. Not only can you see a view of Blackburn but if you visit on a clear day, you may be lucky enough to spot distant views out towards Lytham, Southport and Fleetwood.
