Enjoy a fabulous ride on a heritage steam train this summer with East Lancashire Railway. The line runs down 12 miles of the Irwell Valley crossing, travelling through picturesque countryside, towns and villages, that are perfect to stop off at and explore. Start your journey in the beautiful market town of Rawtenstall, where you can explore The Whitaker Gardens, or enjoy a meal outside at the markets. Dogs are welcome throughout the railway route and in food and drink stops along the way during non-event days.
World Horse Welfare Penny Farm, Blackpool
If you have a horse enthusiast in your midst, Penny Farm is a great day out! This horse rescue and rehabilitation centre gives your family the chance to meet the horses and take a walk round the fields and paddocks with activity trails throughout the summer months to join in with. The visitor centre also has a small café and gift shop and a picnic area for enjoying the sun.
