By Road Lancashire is well connected by road, with the M6 running right through the county and connecting to the M61, M65, M55, not to mention several major A roads. In less than an hour’s drive from Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds you could be exploring the vast countryside with its rolling hills and stunning views or discovering the beautiful Lancashire coastline with its historic promenades and rugged cliffsides. By Water If you’re lucky enough to travel by water then both the Lancaster canal and Leeds-Liverpool canal give you the chance to sail right into the heart of places like Lancaster, Garstang and Burnley, whilst you’ll also get amazing views of our stunning countryside and wildlife on route. The ferry port at Heysham also connects the county to the Isle of Man.
By Rail Lancashire has excellent rail connections from all over the country. The West Coast Main Line allows visitors to get to stations in Preston and Lancaster in just two hours from London, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Cross Country routes connect the cities to York, Leeds and the Lake District too. Local routes allow visitors to reach towns such as Clitheroe, Burnley, Blackburn, Colne, Ormskirk, Morecambe and Carnforth. There are also direct trains traveling from Manchester and Liverpool to many Lancashire towns and cities and seaside resorts such as Blackpool. By Air Both Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Manchester Airport have frequent flights serving Europe and international airports. Manchester Airport has direct trains to many Lancashire destinations every 30 minutes and it’s less than an hour’s drive from Manchester to Preston. Liverpool John Lennon Airport is easily accessible by car, just a few minutes from the motorway which can connect you to Lancashire via the M6. By Bike Bring your bike to Lancashire (or hire one when you get here) and appreciate the variety of terrain and breath-taking views. Many of our self- catering accommodation providers offer bike storage, and there are incredible routes to follow when you get here such as the Ways of the Roses and Guild Wheel, plus those outlined on Ways Around the Bay. Cycling hire is available from a number of businesses around the region.
