Take a look some of the best walks for boxing day below; FAIRY GLEN

BROCKHOLES NATURE RESERVE

Nestled on the side of Parbold Hill, which also makes a great boxing day stroll, is the Fairy Glen, offering a magical place to enchant children and adults alike. This little valley is home to bridges, waterfalls and so many ancient trees that are just perfect for fairy homes. The walk is a linear route that follows a brook through the trees, but there are openings out into wider countryside to create a circular route should you wish. Make sure to keep to the countryside code and stick to paths if you do this.

Looking for a walk that is easy to get to, has accessible paths and a wide range of wildlife habitats? Then look no further than Brockholes Nature Reserve. This fabulous nature reserve sits on the edge of the M6 next to Preston, with flat accessible walking routes perfect for pushchairs and wheelchairs. You’ll find a mix of habitats including water, fields and woodland, as well as play areas for the kids. In recent years the café has been open on boxing day too, ready to supply warming drinks for walkers and families. There are many walking routes to choose from but check out the Discovery Trail if you want a longer walk that will take in all the sights around the reserve.

DARWEN TOWER Darwen Tower, also known as Jubilee Tower, sits on Beacon Hill overlooking the market town of Darwen. This beautiful example of 19th century architecture can be spotted gracing the skyline from most routes into town and is even more impressive up close. There are many routes to the tower, but if you want a relatively easy boxing day stroll you can find two different two-mile circular routes from Darwen itself. The first starts at Darwen Town Hall and takes you through Bold Venture Park where you can walk by the lake and enjoy the waterfall and play areas. The second begins near Sunnyhurst Wood and takes you by the Sunnyhurst Reservoir and through some beautiful moorland with incredible views.
